We were commissioned by The University of Manchester to design and deliver a modern, sustainable, accessible music practice room facility to enrich the experience of music students and support the expansion of the adjacent Martin Harris Center.
The solution is a two storey modular building housing soundproof music practice pods. The MMC modular route not only created cost and programme savings but also added to reducing the carbon impact of the building. To maximise the sustainability benefits of the scheme a fabric first approach was taken with high levels of insulation employed, making optimum use of natural light and utilizing natural ventilation via MVHR units and air source heat pumps all contributing to meeting the university’s sustainability criteria.
The scheme also includes a new plaza style courtyard creating an inviting area of planting and seating to encourage the opportunity for outdoor studying, socialising and relaxation.
We provided full architectural services through all RIBA stages from concept to completion.
