Jefferson Sheard Architects were appointed by HG Construction to deliver a 141-bed Student Accommodation scheme in Guildford, Surrey for end user Scape.
The 0.44 acre site is located at the junction of Kernel Court and Walnut Tree Close and was formally occupied by Dairy Crest who relocated from the site in 2013 - the property had been vacant since.
The project therefore included the demolition of a distribution centre and construction of a 3, 4 and 5 storey building with courtyard garden at the rear. A feature glazed entrance is located at the corner of the building providing access to bedrooms as well as communal spaces including games room, lounge and study spaces.
The new student accommodation will provide an excellent opportunity to inject life into an underutilised site and area of transition where regeneration is already occurring.

Due to the nature of the purpose built facility and the site’s irregular triangular shape together with the configuration of the buildings, there was limited potential for re-using the buildings for any other B class purposes.
